Tabouleh Festival

306 N. Main

Bristow, Oklahoma 74010

Tabouleh (Arabic: تبولة‎; also tabbouleh or tabouli) is a Levantine Arab dish,[1] often used as part of a mezze. Its primary ingredients are bulgur, finely chopped parsley, mint, tomato, scallion, and other herbs with lemon juice, olive oil and various seasonings, generally including black pepper and sometimes cinnamon and allspice.

In the Levant, tabouleh is traditionally eaten with a lettuce leaf,[2] but in the United States it is often served with pita bread, as a dip.

Tabouleh is popular in Brazil and in the Dominican Republic (where it is known as tipili), due to Middle Eastern immigrants who settled there.

The largest recorded bowl of tabouleh was made on June 9, 2006 in Ramallah, in the West Bank.[3] It weighed 1,514 kilograms (3,348 lbs) and earned a Guinness World Record. [4] The previous record was set on February 24, 2001 in Qornet Shahwan, Lebanon.

Tabouleh made it’s way to Bristow and Oklahoma with the influx of Lebanese immigrants during the latter part of the 1800’s.

Fun Facts . .

The “word” Tabouleh

The word tabouleh, is derived from the word Tabbūle  . . . a Levantine Arabic word meaning literally "little spicy." The emphatic diminutive structure faʕʕūl is common in Syrian Arabic and is related to the formal Arabic emphatic structure fuʕʕūlun (as in quddūsun "much sacred.")

In the late 1800’s, Bristow’s middle eastern ancestors brought with them a fresh salad dish made with bulgar wheat and fresh vegetables called Tabouleh.

Bristow’s unique festival celebrates our Lebanese roots and this delicious dish that is well known to most Oklahomans.

Did you know that Bristow has the only two tabouleh factories in the state?

Our festival is celebrated on the second Saturday each May immediately following the Wildflower Run (one of the premiere 5K runs in the state!)

Enjoy an old fashioned, hometown rodeo, the Miss Tabouleh Pageant and events designed to delight and entertain the entire family.

Come to Bristow . . . Let us show you what tabouleh is all about!
